The Pelham jaw piece combines the action of a snaffle and a bar and snaffle. The bit has a jaw but can be ridden with one or two reins. If you choose to ride with a single rein, a pelham strap is needed to connect the rings on the bit to the rings on the handles. The pelham is a lever action mouthpiece. The longer the scissors, the sharper the effect. The baby pelham has short legs and therefore has a softer spin than the regular pelham. The Pelham bit is primarily used on strong horses, horses with too little room in their mouth for two bits, or horses that have to get used to a bar and a snaffle. This bit is not suitable for inexperienced riders.
